Mom finally went out on the boat with me. The river was a little choppy because the wind was coming and going but the boat was pretty stable. She seemed to enjoy herself.
I was hoping to show her the Eagles that have been flying around the river but they must have been hiding. I did show her the eagles nest but there weren’t any eagles in it. I have watched the eagles fly around several times.
She had never seen the houses with riverfront property from the perspective of the river so that was interesting to her. I have a dream to someday have one of the houses on the river. I think it would be pretty awesome to put some poles out in the morning and sit behind my computer looking out a window at my poles.
Jason and I were able to do a little boating and fishing this morning. We started out around 10:00 AM trying to decide if the boat motor would run. I decided to dry pull it and make sure it wasn’t screwed up and it fired off first pull. So we loaded the boat up and connected it to my truck put it in the water and all went great.
We headed upstream so that if the motor decided not to work we could use the current to get us close to the boat launch. I really didn’t want to paddle it back AGAIN ! ! !
We decided to stop at a spot where the surface water was smooth and glass like. Then we dropped anchor and tried to decide what bait to use. I set up my first pole with chicken liver and cast it out. Then I cast for a few mins with a twister but with the current as strong as it was casting was not working well. So I baited that pole up with a worm.
It didn’t take long and both Jason and I had bites. I caught the first fish a good sized catfish you can see it in the first picture kinda. Jason is as good at taking pictures as he is at catching fish. So the pix didn’t turn out the best. hehe.
Then after I knew the liver worked I wanted to try some stinky shrimp that has been sealed up and sitting in the garage for about a week or longer. Wow, was that shrimp rank ! ! ! We both did have bites on the shrimp but i think it was the smaller cats just nibbling or something like that maybe they couldn’t fit their mouths over the shrimp.
When we used worms it seams that the sheep head gobble them up so i prefer to not use worms at all.
After fishing that spot for a couple hours we decided we wanted to try a spot in calmer water near what we call the PIT. On the way to the PIT we headed under the train bridge and we both knew it was shallow but didn’t realize how shallow in some places it was. I was driving and the boat was at a slow almost idol and it jerked up. I knew right away i had hit a rock or the bottom or something so as quick as I could think I tilted the motor up so it was just barley in the water.
Well that didn’t do the trick the damage was already done. We had sheered the sheer pin. Jason has delt with changing the pin in the water multiple times but it was my first time to replace one without dry land under my feet.
We accomplished it ! ! It wasn’t as difficult as it could have been but it still wasn’t all that easy either. So after all that we decided to head back to the boat launch and take the boat out for the day. I think we will try to go again very soon.
I took this video with my cellphone Thursday morning. its the first time i have published a video that i took from my cellphone. Let me know if anyone has trouble viewing it.
Brandon was a happy guy in the video. Would be nice if I could figure out a way to keep him this happy all the time.
i think I should invest in a digital camera that can record videos in higher quality. I think it would be fun to add some videos to the mixture here.
This Morning Jason Caught this little guy. There were way too many little sheepheads like this biting to catch much of anything else. I think we might go fishing again tomorrow. If we do i hope we can catch somthing a little better then these little Sheephead.
The day started with me waking up around 6:30 at Michelle’s. I did the normal morning things and when i found my phone and checked my text. I had a message from Jason reminding me that we were going to go fishing. So I responded to him letting him know that I wanted to but I would not be on time. So we decided to meet at the boat launch.
When i arrived i took all my fishing gear out of my truck and walk out on the pier and sat down and started to open stuff up. I decided i wanted to change lures I went to cut the Lure off my line with needle nose pliers and when I pulled the line the lure stuck right into my pinky finger. It didn’t really hurt too bad at that moment. I figured that i had just hooked myself skin deep. Then i went to back the hook out and OMG. This was not so good. it hurt Like HECK. It made my stomach weak and i felt dizzy.
I decided to wait a couple minuets to see if the pain would pass. Then Jason’s dad walked out the pier and saw my finger and suggested I went home and put some ice on it then back it out myself. There was no way i was going to be able to do that. I am too much of a baby when it comes to any pain at all. So Jason picked up all of my fishing equipment and his own and drove me to the Dr here in Byron.
They gave me 3 shots in the pinky and soaked it in some red stuff i figured to clean it. Then the dr pulls out some bolt cutters that were big enough to cut my finger off. Then he snipped the lure off and all that was left was the hook part inside my finger. Then he grabbed pliers out of his toy box and pushed the hook all the way out through a new hole. I couldn’t look but Jason watched the whole thing. Then I took a pic and replied to some text messages that I had received while in the Dr office
I signed the papers they needed me to and left. We went to the gas station and got something to drink. Then i got a call and had to go back to the Dr. they forgot to give me a tetanus shot. So i went back for that and was only in there a few minuets.
Finally got back to the boat launch and unloaded the fishing equiptment again and started fishing. I caught a little sheep head quickly and Jason hooked one and just as he brought it out of the water it flipped off. I then casted and jigged around the rocks on shore and hooked a nice bass. jason started to get sleepy so he headed home and i fished a short time longer and caught the teeny weenie baby bassey.
Thats the day. if you took enough time to read this post then please take a few more mins and leave some comments for me.
I caught a couple others that i didn’t take pictures of but they were all the same kinds of fish. Didn’t catch anything really good or big but it was fun catching the fish i did catch.
This morning around 4:00 am Jason sent me a text asking if I wanted to go fishing this morning. I of course responded to him and after he got off work we went down to the boat launch. While walking out the pier we noticed a minnow bucket and it had some minnows in it so we both used one and cast out. Then we set up our casting rods and tried really hard to get something to bite but we just didn’t have any luck at all. So that’s why I am not including any pictures of fish.
Still had a good time. I think we might try the same thing tomorrow. Hopefully we will have better luck and i will be able to post some pix of fish.
