Crappie in the pit. Its really odd that from time to time trolling over the shallows at the enterance to the pit I have been picking up crappie in 3 – 4 feet of water. I know where these crappie are hovering that there should be some larger Walleye and Northern. I am gettin ready to put the boat in right now if the water is deep enough under the train bridge I will head to the pit and see if I can sink my hooks into a big one.
Mom went out for a boat ride and to float for a little while. It was her first time out since I got a different boat. It was a nice calm day. I am lookin forward to her going out with me more often. I would like it if she got her fishing license and started to do a little fishing. I think its one of the most peacful and relaxing things to sit in the boat and just float and watch a bobber.
Jason and I went out to do some catfishing at night. We headed to a spot where a creek opens up into the rock river. We casted into a 10 – 12 foot hole and I caught 2 turtles on liver and one on worm. Was a really odd experiance. I had never expected to catch 3 turtles in one night. They werent small the largest has a shell a little over 15 inches wide and they streatched their neck way out. Pretty spooky animals. The claws in their feet were also sharp and long. I don’t know where all the turtles came from all i know is that before this year people didnt catch turtles like this.
The white bass are starting to hit at random. They seem to be in large schools and they bite in a fury when you cast anything into the school of them. I believe they will become more and more active in the next few weeks. When the white bass are active they are a lot of fun to catch because they get crazy and wild once they are hooked. They dont put up too much of a fight unless you use a ultra lite or lite action rod But they are great to increase the excitment level fishing.
I took Taylor out in the boat for a few hours. She was sooo happy and perfect on the water. She liked her hair blowing in the wind as we drove up and down the river. She had fun splashing and kicking her hands and feet in the water. She really liked watching the other boats pull tubes. She thinks she is ready to be pulled on the tube. Then she wanted to try driving the boat. I set it up to a nice slow speed in a wide deep part of the river and gave her the wheel. She drove around in a couple figure 8’s then she wanted to watch people on the sand bar swimming and sun bathing. Maybe next time I will be able to talk Austin into going with and we could waste some time playing at the sandbar beach.
I set up my catfish rod with a bobber and hook to float next to the boat while I drifed and trolled. I wasnt really expecting to have much luck but it seemed like there were lots of bluegills that swarmed the boat. Good to remember when I can get the kids out with me. I am sure they will be able to catch a few bluegills.
